Vets take over 1st place with sweep of Merchants !!

Waking up with the Vets – Nov 01

When the alarm clock went off this morning, the Vets woke up atop of the tightly contested Doherty Division after back-to-back wins over the Norwich Merchants this weekend.

On Saturday night, the Vets travelled to Norwich for part two of the weekend’s home-and-home battle of 59. The two teams clashed early in the first as the game began with an emphasis on the physical with both teams being shown the gate early on. Unlike Friday night, on this night, the Merchants were the first to hit the score sheet when Kyle Brezinski opened the scoring on the powerplay at the 12 minute mark. However, the lead was short lived as Kyle Baker notched his 9th off the rush just under 20 seconds later. About 5 minutes later, Nolan Brett would push the Vets ahead as he converted in tight on the powerplay.

The second period began with the Vets heading to the box yet again. This time, however, it was Griffin Sinden who buried a short handed dagger to put the Vets up 3 to 1. The Merchants would fight back with a second powerplay marker midway through the second. From there, the Vets continued to press, having not converted on several grade A scoring chances.

Entering the 3rd period up 3-2, the next goal was always going to be crucial. Thankfully, it was the boys in blue that found the back of the net next. Christian Pelley answered the call at the 13 minute mark to restore the Vets 2 goal lead. Graeme Noye was stellar between the pipes as the Vets held onto their 4 – 2 lead and came home with the W.

Special Congratulations to:
