Sam Barry had a big night and scored a shorthanded goal just over midway thru the final period to increase the precarious lead the Vets held on Aaron Bullock’s 2nd period goal. Tyler Smeda scored into an empty net late to seal the game while Tyler Bouck made 34 saves for his 13 win of the season as the Navy Vets spoiled the Firebirds’ Teddy Bear Toss Night with the 3-0 shutout in New Hamburg on Friday night.
The victory gives the Vets an 8 point lead over the 2nd place Firebirds on top of the Doherty Division standings with a 19-2-1-0 record.
