FRI:
Navy Vets lost 7-6 in OT to Paris at Southwood
The Navy Vets found themselves in a bad situation down 6-3 halfway thru the final period before mounting a miracle comeback.
Brodie Kearns scored with 4.39 left in the 3rd to force OT … but the Paris Titans spoiled the party when they scored on the powerplay just under 2 minutes into the extra period to win 7-6 at Southwood on Friday night.
Ethan Szabo started the late comeback and Nolan Brett with his 20th goal of the season made it 6-5 setting up the exciting finish.
Connor Stanley, Owen Lukings, and Ty Crombie scored the other Vets goals.
Scott Rodrigue made 18 saves against his former team before leaving the game early in the 3rd period after a collison in the crease and was replaced by Tyler Bouck who made 10 saves including many key ones to give the Vets the chance for the comeback.
The Vets despite the loss still managed to gained a point on 2nd place New Hamburg when the Firebirds were beaten in Norwich.
SAT:
Navy Vets lost 2-1 in Wellesley
The Navy Vets came up on the short-end of a 2-1 game in Wellesley on Saturday night.
The loss was the 3rd straight for the Vets as they ended the 2023 portion of the season on a bit of a tailspin.
But a New Hamburg loss in OT in Paris on Saturday night leaves the Vets with a 4 point lead on the Firebirds with a game-in-hand at the top of the Doherty Division standings.
Ty Crombie scored the Vets goal.
Scott Rodrigue made 31 saves in the loss.
