Vets get 2 big wins .. remain on top !!

WNV weekend recap – Feb.04

The Navy Vets now have a record of 26-6-3-0 and remain 1 point ahead of 2nd place New Hamburg. Each team has 7 games left in the regular season … including 2 against each other … in New Hamburg next Friday night and back at Southwood the following Friday Feb 16.

Davin Gray scored his 3rd goal of the game just 36 seconds into OT as the Navy Vets completed an amazing comeback to defeat the Hespeler Shamrocks 6-5 tonight at Southwood Arena.
Gray took a great pass from Brodie Kearns on a 2-on-1 break and deked the Shamrocks goalie to deposit the puck into the net sending the over 600 fans in attendance for Wildcats Night home very happy.
Dominos Pizza were there to happily hand out free pizza coupons to all fans after the Vets staged a terrific comeback with 3 goals in the 3rd period to tie the game. A huge sponsor of the Vets over the years Dominos had a promo that all fans would get a coupon for a free medium pizza on their way out of the arena if the Vets scored 5 goals. Gray’s 2nd goal of the game with just under 8 minutes left to even the score at 5-5 made that happen. That set the stage for the dramatic climax !!
Kearns, Nolan Brett with his 22nd of the season, and Tyler Smeda scored the other Vets goals.
Former Vet Brandon Lamb had 2 goals and an assist for Hespeler.
Tyler Bouck started in net for the Vets and was replaced by Scott Rodrigue to start the 3rd period with Hespeler leading 5-2. Rodrigue made 11 saves in the 3rd period to hold the game until his teammates could make their comeback. Rodrigue was credited with his 10th win of the season.

Tyler Bouck rebounded from a shaky start on Friday night to shutout the Titans in Paris on Saturday night.
After a scoreless 1st period Brodie Kearns and Nolan Brett with his 23rd of the season gave the Navy Vets a 2-0 lead after 2 periods.
Owen Lukings and then Cole Dann into an empty net made the final score 4-0 for the Vets.
Bouck made 27 saves for his 17th win of the season and dropped his GAA to 2.48 … best in the Doherty Division.
The Vets still lead the Doherty Division by 1 point over the New Hamburg Firebirds with a 27-6-3 record.
The Navy Vets will travel to New Hamburg next Friday night for a 1st place showdown with the Firebirds.

Davin Gray remains the top scorer in the Doherty Division with 58 points including a division-leading 43 assists.
