The Navy Vets stumbled out of the gate and were soundly beaten 8-2 on Friday night in their regular season opener in New Hamburg.
The night started with the Firebirds unveiling their 2022 Doherty Division Championship Banner.
Griffin Sinden scored both Navy Vets goals. Joseph Clark started in the Vets net and allowed 6 goals on 34 shots to take the loss before being relieved by Graeme Noye in the 3rd period who gave up 2 more goals on 11 shots.
Cole Stannix scored twice for the Firebirds while rookie Jesse Schill had 1 goal and 3 assists. Griffin Murphy made 19 saves in getting the win.
