Jake Phelan scored early in the 3rd period to give the Vets a 3-2 lead which held up for the victory over Hespeler Shamrocks at Southwood Arena on Friday night in the season home opener.
Newcomer Michael Boyle-Ricupero scored his 1st junior goal on a breakaway in the 1st period to give the Vets the lead. After Hespeler scored twice in the 2nd period, Vets’ captain Sam Barry’s late powerplay goal tied the game heading to the 3rd.
Tyler Bouck made 31 saves and was credited with the win.
The Vets travel to Paris for a game on Saturday night.
