The final game of this season’s “Battle of Hwy 59” on Friday night at Southwood Arena proved to be an entertaining game with multiple momentum swings.
At the final buzzer the Norwich Merchants had outlasted the Navy Vets 7-4 in front of 1072 fans … pushing the season attendance at Southwood Arena to 10578 for the best season attendance in over 20 years for the Vets !!
Scott Davies … father of former Navy Vets goalie North Davies … was the 10000th fan thru the gates !!
Norwich led 2-1 after the 1st period … and 17 seconds after the Merchants had taken a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd period, Davin Gray with his 23rd of the season and Rhylan Warford scored for the Vets 2 1/2 mins apart to tie the game.
But the Merchants scored twice late in the 2nd and then twice more in the final period to take the victory.
Brodie Kearns and Cole Dann with his 1st as a Vet scored the other Navy Vets goals.
Tyler Bouck played a strong game making 30 saves in the Vets net while taking the loss.
The Navy Vets will now host Wellesley on Monday afternoon at 1:45pm in their annual Family Day game !!
