The New Hamburg Firebirds took the opener of the Doherty Division Championship Series 4-1 over the Navy Vets at Wilmot Recreation Complex in New Hamburg on Monday night.
The Firebirds scored twice in the first 5 minutes including 1 just 25 seconds into the game to take an early lead that the Vets couldn’t overcome.
Ethan Szabo scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd for the lone Vets goal.
Tyler Bouck made 37 saves in taking the loss.
