Vets’ big 2nd period sinks Firebirds !!

The Navy Vets got 2 goals in the 1st period by Mack Easter for a good start to an important game at Southwood Arena on Friday night against New Hamburg Firebirds. After Firebirds captain Zach Mark made the game closer with a goal in the first part of the 2nd period, the Vets blew the game wide open with 6 goals in the last 11 minutes of the middle frame to take a commanding 8-1 lead into the final period. Defencemen led the outburst with Patrick Klazer and newcomer Ty Durston each scoring 2 goals. After a brief lapse and giving up a couple of goals early in the 3rd period Caden Bower scored to seal the deal. In the end it was a great team effort and a 9-4 convincing win by the Navy Vets. Easter, Klazer, and Durston each had 2 goals with Bower, Nolan Brett, and Kyle Baker getting the others. Baker added 4 assists for a 5-point night, while Brett and Bower each added 3 assists for 4-point nights. Keaghan Brett made 28 saves for his division leading 7th win of the season. Baker with his 5 points continues to lead the division in scoring with 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points and a 4 point lead.

The Vets travel to Burford on Saturday night with a meeting against the winless Bulldogs.

In other action on Friday night, Tavistock beat up on Burford 11-0 while in Norwich the Merchants had an easy 9-4 win over Hespeler.
