It was an emotional night in Norwich last night who threw one heck of a party for their home opener. The pre and post game entertainment ensured that when the puck dropped, the Norwich faithful (and some travellers from Woodstock) were ready to go.
The game got off to a slow start for the Vets when Travis Lamb put the Merchants on the board just 3 minutes into the game, followed by another just 8 seconds later by forward Jack Gee to make it 2 – 0 early. The early hole didn’t take the Vets long to climb out of as Patrick Klazer notched his first as a vet with a bullet from the top of the circle on the powerplay. The two teams traded the next two tellies before Kyle Baker evened the score with just 5 seconds to play in the first.
From there, it was all Vets. The team scored the next 7 goals of the game.
At the end of the day it was a very solid team effort. Graeme Noye settled in well, stopping 21 of 24. Jonah Jacksteit was named the first star of the game as he registered a hat-trick in his first junior game. Griffin Sinden had a great game as well with 2 goals and 2 assists as the second star of the game. The third star went to Caden Bower who was solid all night and scored a beautiful goal in the second period.
Play of the Night:
Here is your Vets Play of the Night powered by East Side Marios here in Woodstock.
This goal was scored on the powerplay with 5 seconds remaining in the 1st period last night. As you can see, Kyle Baker finished off a beauty of a passing play from Caden Bower and Christian Pelley to tie the game heading into the intermission.

There is no rest for the wicked as the Vets are back to business tonight for our Home Opener against the Tavistock Braves. The Braves have eliminated the Vets from the playoffs the last two seasons and should be a great test yet again this year. Be sure to head over to our website to get your ticket.
Around the Doherty:
Three games were played Friday night in the doherty. The Tavistock Braves kicked off their season at home against the New Hamburg Firebirds. The Birds flew home with two points after taking the opener 3-2. Elsewhere, the Wellesley Applejacks defeated the Burford Bulldogs in their home opener by a score of 13 – 2.
Saturday night will see Norwich travel to Wellesley and Hespeler face off against Burford.
The blueline will be open tonight. We have received approvals from the city and SWPH to operate our blueline albeit in a different location than normal. We will be located in and above section 11 which is right beside the zamboni doors. A capacity limit has been set by SWPH for the area.
Fans are asked to get their tickets ahead of time. While we can process tickets at the gate, it will be a delayed process. Purchasing ahead of time ensures that we fulfill our requirements related to contact tracing while also creating long lines and delays.
