Vets win 3rd place battle over rival !!

The Navy Vets and Merchants played another classic battle in the “Battle of Hwy 59” rivalry Friday night in Norwich.

The score was scoreless after the 1st period.  Ethan Szabo converted a beautiful 3-way passing play with Nolan Brett and Joey Zhang to open the scoring early in the 2nd.  Norwich tied it less than a minute later.  Jake Ertel intercepted a pass and scored with a top corner shot in the last minute of the period as the Vets took a 2-1 lead into the final period.  Lakin Hendry then scored on a breakaway early in the 3rd and added another 6 minutes later to give the Vets a 4-1 lead.  Norwich closed the deficit to 4-2 with less than 5 minutes left before Brendan Sullivan sealed it with an empty netter in the last minute for a 5-2 Vets win.

Graeme Noye made 38 saves including a highlite reel one late in 3rd to keep the score 4-2 at the time …
