The Navy Vets got down 1-0 after the 1st and 3-1 after 2 periods as they lost 5-1 in New Hamburg on Friday night.
With the loss the Vets slip down into 2nd place by 1 point behind the Firebirds … each team with 5 games left in the regular season.
Nolan Brett tied the game early in the 2nd for the Vets on the powerplay but it was all Firebirds after that.
Tyler Bouck made 36 saves in taking the loss.
Former Vets goalie Graeme Noye got his division-leading 20th win in goal for the Firebirds.
The Navy Vets travel to Hespeler for a Sunday afternoon game.
