New Hamburg Firebirds scored once in the 1st and once in the 2nd before Lakin Hendry scored for the Vets with just over 6 minutes left to set up an exciting finish … but and empty net goal ended the Vets season in a 3-1 loss before the largest crowd of the season of over 1200 at Southwood on Sunday afternoon.
The Firebirds move on to meet the Tavistock Braves in the Doherty Division Championship Series.
It was a great year for the Vets … winning their 1st regular season title in 20 years.
But the end came too soon … especially for veteran overagers Keaghan Brett, Liam Munro, Drew Mullett, and Wes Dobbin who played their last game in junior hockey.
