The Navy Vets just wouldn’t go away on Wednesday night in Tavistock as they opened their QF playoff series with the Braves.
The Braves scored twice early in the game but the Vets tied it at 2-2 by the end of the 1st period on goals by Ethan Szabo and Matt Brooks.
The Braves went ahead again very early in the 2nd period before the Vets tied it again with a powerplay goal by Davin Gray on a terrific setup by Tommy Zufelt.
Tavistock went up 4-3 midway thru the 2nd before Brooks once again tied the game with his 2nd of the game on a beautiful tip of a Zufelt point shot.
It stayed close until a late questionable penalty call put the Vets shorthanded with just under 3 minutes left and the Braves scored what turned out to be the winning goal on the powerplay.
Final score – TAV 5 WNV 4
Game #2 goes on Friday night at Southwood Arena.
